So tell us; what are your favourite themes and styles? In other words, what do you like to write about, and how do you write it?
And, how has this style developed?
This theme was suggested by IsolatedSystem ! Would you like to ask other writers a question as well? Let us know your ideas

Contests Are Coming
I truly apologize for the long delay. I was very ill for awhile and am now dealing with my beloved being relocated a thousand miles from me. Both contests will be up quite soon. If anyone has any questions or are interested in either of them, please show your support here by commenting. Thank you all for your continued support and patience.

Literature Category Restructure
Hello poets and songwriters
The Community Relations team of dA wants to restructure the Literature gallery (and all others).
Lyrics are being changed quite a bit too! Luckily they're asking for our feedback before changing it, so I recommend you comment on the full proposal.
Currently, Lyrics are under Literature > Poetry > [one of the many styles] > Songs & Lyrics. With this change, they would be under Literature > Poetry > Performance > Lyrics. You wouldn't be submitting and browsing them by different themes any longer. And this is true for any type of poetry.
Thoughts? Please comment on the Literature Gallery Restructure Proposa
Upcoming Contests
Hello one and all. I am officially back, and we here at the club are ready for a new year. In celebration of such a year, we are finally ready to bring back contests in full swing. We are changing it up a bit though. Contests will no longer be monthly, instead you will have a full two months to put forth your best creations. What that means, is you won't be rushed to do something for the contest, you can spend more time on the creative process. It will also bring about more time for contestants to join up. Now, the deadlines aren't the only thing changing. So are the prizes. Features will still be coming, as are the accolades for a well writt
What do you like most about writing?
Discussion blog 5. Some points will be handed out to our favourite responses as well as to some random ones. :)

Making music has always always always appealed to me... when I was a kid, I used to really struggle to get on with the other kids, and was bullied horribly, so at school I used to try and avoid people, and just walked around the playground singing quietly to myself, just making up words as I went along. Usually it'd be about something really silly, like my favourite food at the time, or a game I liked to play, but I was always coming up with new stuff.
Then at age.... 9ish, I started to learn to play the guitar, and straight away in the exercise book my teacher gave me, I was writing short little melodies in the back pages which I could play.
There was a bit of a musical break after that, but my first real song I wrote when I was about 14, and it was AWFUL. Literally, rhyme seemed more important than anything else, but to me it was the greatest thing in the world, because I wrote a simple guitar chord pattern to fit a simple drum beat and bassline, and added words to it - and since then I've tried desperately to improve.
In terms of theme... I tend to write about whatever's in my head. So, yes, the odd love song, yes, philosophical stuff sometimes, and yes to anything else that might be going on in my personal life... I try not to make any two songs too similar, but sometimes it's easier said than done
In terms of style, I do use quite a lot of rhyme, which I'm trying to stop myself from forcing on every song, but I also use a lot of metaphors where I can, to describe things that have similar meaning to me, in the hope that anyone who reads them/hears them (ever) will find their own interpretation that has more specific meaning to them. I also like to play with words that have similar sounds (for example, every other line in the verses in one song I wrote had a word ending in "-tion" or "-sion" on the end), but maybe that's a bit of a drawback. Genre-wise, I like relatively heavy stuff.... punk rock, metalcore, hardcore, post-hardcore, but sometimes find it much easier to write something quiet, acoustic, and much more laid back.
I am looking to improve though, because I'm rather dominated by writer's block, so that means that I'm immediately so happy with everything that I CAN pull together that I take a LONG time to spot the crappy bits.
But I'll stop rambling and shut up now
